The particularly impressive Grand Inquistor by Ramaz Chikviladze has the desired power and authority, facing the more subtle Michele Pertusi, the opposition of the two voices is very interesting, almost didactic because it is no longer the (circus) fight of two bass, as we often hear or expect, but on the contrary the dialectic of two different personalities, two types of authority carried by two vocalities, and here the difference in voices also illuminates the meaning of the libretto; it’s truly one of the highlights of the evening.
