Ramaz Chikviladze

Ramaz Chikviladze, born in Georgia and a graduate of the Tbilisi State Conservatory, embarked on a remarkable career in opera. His journey began at the Bayerische Staatsoper, singing in the young ensemble during the 2003/4 Season, where his exceptional talent was recognized, leading to invitations to perform iconic roles in renowned opera companies worldwide.

 

Chikviladze's early career at the Bayerische Staatsoper saw him taking on the title role in G. Verdi's "Attila," conducted by Asher Fisch at the Israeli Opera. This marked the beginning of a series of stellar performances in Tel Aviv, including the title role in "Mefistofele," Silva in "Ernani," and Zaccaria in "Nabucco." His reputation grew, and he became a sought-after artist for prestigious opera companies such as Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro San Carlo, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Israeli Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera de Monte-Carlo, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Massimo Bellini, Opera de Nice, Teatro Carlo Felice, Teatro Petruzzelli, Seoul Arts Center, National Opera Bucharest, Prague State Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart and many more.

 

Collaborating with world-renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Renato Palumbo, Asher Fisch, Giampaolo Bizanti, Omer Welber, Donato Renzetti, Jordi Bernacer, Marco Guidarini and Marcello Motadelli. Chikviladze continues to captivate audiences with his powerful and expressive voice.

 

His 2022/23 season commenced with a compelling portrayal of Ramfis in "Aida" at Teatro Petruzzelli, conducted by Renato Palumbo, a role he reprised in Wiesbaden under the baton of Giampaolo Bisanti. Notably, he also showcased his talent as Zaccaria in "Nabucco" at Domstufenfestpiele Erfurt. Venturing into Asia, Chikviladze portrayed the Grand Inquisitor in "Don Carlo" at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, a role he also performed in Modena, Piacenza, and Regio Emilia under the direction of Jordi Bernacer. Returning to Italy, he delivered a poignant performance as Raimondo in "Lucia di Lamermoor" at Teatro Politeama Greco Lecce. The year 2023 unfolded with Chikviladze participating in diverse productions, including Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" at Teatro Massimo Bellini and F. Cilea's "Gloria" as Aquilante d'e Bardi at Teatro Lirico Cagliari. His journey continued with a triumphant return to his homeland, portraying Filippo II in "Don Carlo" at the Tbilisi State Opera, replicated in Bucharest and Rimini. Notable performances followed in Poznan, where he portrayed Fiesco in "Simon Boccanegra" conducted by Marco Guidarini and Timur in "Turandot" at Teatro Petruzzelli, conducted by Renato Palumbo.

 

The 2017/18 season marked a significant chapter in Chikviladze's career with debuts as Filippo II in "Don Carlo" and Raimondo in "Lucia di Lamermoor" at the National Opera Bucharest. He also debuted as the role of Mephistopheles in "Faust" at Teatro Comunale Modena and sang Bartolo in "The Barbeer of Seville" at Staatsoper Hamburg which was followed by singing Zaccaria in "Nabucco" solidifying his status as a regular guest at these famous Opera Houses. 

Chikviladze's repertoire boasts notable roles in productions such as Mefistofele (Mefistofele), Zaccaria (Nabucco) and Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra). Other highlights include performances in operas like "Turandot" at Opera de Monte-Carlo, Teatro Carlo Felice, Teatro Petruzzelli, Teatro Massimo Palermo and Tbilisi State Opera, "Don Carlo," at National Opera Bucharest, Teatro Comunale Modena, Tbilisi State Opera, Teatro Municipale Piacenza, Teatro Regio Emilia and Teatro Amintore Galli,  "The Barbeer of Sevillle" at Staatsoper hamburg, Theater Bonn, Theater Dortmund and National Opera Bucharest, "Attila" at Israeli Opera and Dublin Philarmonic, "Aida" at Teatro Massimo Palermo, Teatro Petruzzelli, St. Marghareten Festival, Tbilisi State Opera, "Don Giovanni" at Theater Dortmund, Theater Bonn, Opera de Nice, Opera de Toulon, Oper Wuppertal, "Faust" at Teatro Comunale Modena, "The Magic Flute" at Teatro San Carlo and many more operas across various esteemed opera houses worldwide. Ramaz Chikviladze's artistry continues to leave an indelible mark on the international opera scene.
